Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997. She was born in a small town in Pakistan called Mingora. Mingora was occupied by the Taliban at the time period. She had two brothers named Kushal and Apal. One is older and the other one is younger. Her parent’s names are Torpekai and Ziauddin. When the Pakistan army regained control of Mingora, Malala sent her diary that she had kept to the BBC under a fake name. On December 19, 2011 she won the National Peace award given by the Pakistan government for keeping the diary through the bad conditions when the Taliban was in control. The Government Girls Secondary School was renamed as The Malala Yousafzai Government Girls Secondary School following the award.
On October 9, 2012 a gunman walked up to a bus taking children home from school and shot Malala and the women who told the gunman that it was her. Malala was shot twice, once in the head and once in the neck. Luckily the shots were not life threatening. The doctor said that the bullets were right below her left eyebrow and below her jaw. Her skull bone will be replaced by a different one or a titanium plate. She was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital so she can have the best care possible. The Queen Elizabeth hospital is for people that have suffered injuries trying to support their freedom or country. She is currently in al lot of care in the hospital and will be able to get out soon.
Recently, the suspects sister went to visit malala trying to apologize to her for her brother’s actions. Malala was not happy to see her and she made her leave immediately. The sister was interviewed later at her home. She said that when her brother was at her house, the police barged in and took the brother. The sister and her family were very sad and at first she did not believe that he did it. Later, she found out that her brother really did do it and that is when she decided to go and visit Malala. After the attack the Pakistani girls promised to stay in school and try as hard as they can to get to get the best education they can. Her nation now has a day of remembrance called Malala’s Day to show their respect for her. Right now, Malala’s father was offered a job in Birmingham. She is thinking if she should stay in the UK or return home to Pakistan where the Taliban has promised that they will attack again. Malala now is working on removing one bullet from her spine and is hoping to get better soon.
